Report: Lou Williams Signs Contract Extension with Los Angeles Clippers

This new deal will keep Williams in Los Angeles until the 2021 off-season. The extension also includes a team option in the third year, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Williams, a 12-year NBA veteran, is currently averaging 23 points and five assists per game. Despite starting on just 14 occasions, Williams has been one of the Clippers’ best players this season. Surrounded by trade rumors, the professional scorer was a borderline All-Star this year but just missed out. You could say he was snubbed; Williams certainly thinks so.

The Blake Griffin trade led many to believe that the Clippers would blow things up. DeAndre Jordan and Williams were both mentioned in trade speculation, as the team looked likely to go in a new direction. However, this deal does make the chances of Jordan sticking around a little more likely. Williams had reportedly spent the last month negotiating with the Clippers over a new deal. The deal offers both the team and player some stability going forward. Having spent time with five different teams since 2012, Williams will look to make Los Angeles home for the foreseeable future.

Williams has been a key man for an injury-riddled Clippers team this season and is fully deserving of this new deal. Whether he can produce like he is long-term, nobody knows. We’ll just have to wait and see.
