Report: JaMychal Green Re-Signs With Memphis Grizzlies

Restricted free agent power forward JaMychal Green re-signs with the Memphis Grizzlies on a two-year, $17 million contract.

The Memphis Grizzlies have re-signed restricted free agent power forward JaMychal Green to a contract worth $17 million over two years.

Shams Charania of The Vertical broke the news on Wednesday afternoon:

JaMychal Green Re-Signs With Memphis Grizzlies

Green’s new deal will take him through the end of the 2018-19 season.

Green averaged 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game last season for the  Grizzlies. Showing significant improvements ever year, Green appeared in 77 games for Memphis in 2016-17, starting 75 of them. This past NBA season, Green posted career highs in minutes played, rebounds, assists, points, free throw shooting, and three-point percentage.

Looking forward, Green will look to demonstrate even more improvement for Memphis, as a capable starter or spark off the bench. Averaging 37.9% from three-point territory, Green will need to keep that number consistent heading into next season. For the 6’9 power forward, the league has transitioned to where the long-range shot is ever so valuable. The Grizzlies will need Green to continue evolving as an NBA player in order to compete for a playoff spot in the 2017-18 season.

Green is going into his third season in the league, during which he’ll be 27 years old. After being undrafted back in the 2012 NBA Draft, Green has demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to improving his overall game. Look to see Green continue his improvement; averaging a double-double and contending for the 2018 NBA Most Improved Player award is a likely possibility.
