Former No.1 overall pick Anthony Bennett has signed with Turkish Basketball Super League team Fenerbahce. Waived by the Brooklyn Nets earlier this week, Bennett has quickly found a new home with the Turkish side. No details of Bennett’s contract with Fenerbahce have yet been released. Bennett was drafted No.1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, out of UNLV in 2013.

Anthony Bennett Signs With Fenerbahce

Bennett, 23, will join one of Europe’s best clubs. Fenerbahce is currently joint top of the Turkish Super League, alongside Anadolu Efes. Bennett will join fellow former NBA players Ekpe Udoh, Pero Antic and Jan Vesely in Turkey.

NBA Career

Bennett was drafted No.1 overall by the Cavaliers in 2013. However, Bennett failed to live up to the hype, playing for four NBA teams in just four years. Considered to be one of the biggest busts in NBA history, Bennett was unfortunate to never find his ideal situation. Averaging 4.2 points and just 12.8 minutes per game his rookie year, Bennett looked out of his depth in Cleveland. After putting up such poor numbers, the Cavaliers didn’t waste any time moving on from Bennett. When the Cavaliers traded for Kevin Love in 2014, Bennett was thrown in by Cleveland. Bennett was on his way to Minnesota.

The Beginning of the End

Bennett would attempt to revive his career with the Timberwolves. Starting for the first time in Minnesota, Bennett would look for stability, but fail to find it. Lasting 57 games, Bennett was waived by the Timberwolves. Bennett was struggling to stay in the league, but the Canadian forward wasn’t done yet. A month before the start of the 2015-16 NBA season, Bennett headed home to play for the Toronto Raptors. This appeared to be Bennett’s final chance at success. The Raptors would accommodate Bennett but rarely used the young forward. Playing in just 19 games and averaging 4.4 minutes on the court, Bennett was watching his dream disappear.

What Now for Anthony Bennett

Bennett’s NBA dream likely ended in Brooklyn, as the forward was waived after just 23 games. Spending time in the D-League was the final straw for Bennett, as the former No.1 overall pick heads to Turkey, hoping to revive his basketball career. Fenerbahce has given Bennett a great opportunity to continue and rebuild his career.
