After his bizarre absence from Monday night’s game versus the New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has found yet another way to make headlines. According to NBA Central, Rose will pursue a maximum contract in free agency this summer.

A max deal would pay Rose approximately 30 million a year over the course of five seasons; however, despite the increase in the NBA salary cap and his productive play, Rose is highly unlikely to receive a mega deal of this magnitude.
Whether it’s Rose’s extensive injury history, the Knicks current struggles, or his recent unexplained and abrupt absence from the team, Rose has been at the center of controversy for his Knicks team; that won’t help him get a max deal.
Will Derrick Rose Get A Max Contract In Free Agency?
The salary cap is going up yet again, and a number of players will without a doubt be given massive deals, and while anything could happen, it appears to be unlikely that a team would commit that much money to the former MVP. While the injuries will always be a question, his recent absence from Monday’s night’s game raise even more questions about not only his game but also his mindset and commitment to the team.
People have been questioning his faith in the Knicks, whether he’s committed, and even if he’s packed it in. A report even came out just hours ago that Rose has even been contemplating retirement.
Rose has a number of question marks surrounding himself, and the reeling Knicks will likely not give him a max contract – a deal which would eat up all of their cap space. The same goes for any other team.
Derrick Rose is averaging 17.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.9 rebounds with the Knicks this season. New York is currently sitting at 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a sub-par record of 17-21.
