Nick Young Out 2-4 Weeks With Calf Strain

Los Angeles Lakers' Nick Young is set to miss 2-4 weeks with a strained right calf muscle. Young suffered the injury against New Orleans on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Nick Young is set to miss 2-4 weeks with a strained right calf muscle. The Lakers had hoped Young’s injury would lead to the exuberant guard missing a couple of games, not multiple weeks.

Nick Young Out 2-4 Weeks

Young, 31, sustained the injury in Tuesday night’s 105-88 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. With Young going down early, the Lakers attitude took a knock and the team failed to recover on the night. So with the Lakers getting dominated by a resurgent Pelicans team, Luke Walton’s team now stands at 9-10 on the season. So far this season, Young is averaging 13.3 points, 1.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Last season was turbulent for Young, suffering problems on and off the court. He averaged a career-low 7.3 points in a season which saw Lakers fans wanting Young run out of town. Then on top of Young’s poor play was an off court drama, which would affect the Lakers entire season chemistry wise. Teammate D’Angelo Russell and Young would clash, but let’s avoid that whole fiasco.

Walton’s young Lakers team appear to be on the up after a strong start to the season. Despite recent disappointing losses to the Warriors and Pelicans, the attitude and culture appears to have changed in Los Angeles. Some even have the Lakers in the playoff picture. However, the teams recent run of games may prove those playoff hopefuls to be jumping ahead too soon. The team has dropped three of their last four games and have been heavily affected by injuries. Awkwardly enough, Young joins Russell on the long-term injury list. Power forward Julius Randle has also missed time with a hip injury. The Lakers have found a way to once again become competitive and have a chance to win at least 30-35 games this season. The likes of Young, Russell and Randle are key players. Their health is a huge factor in the Lakers’ playoffs hopes, however small they may be.
