Report: Pacers Set to Sign Kevin Seraphin

The Indiana Pacers have agreed a two-year, $3.6 million deal with French center Kevin Seraphin.

The deal was first reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Pacers agree to sign Kevin Seraphin

Seraphin made official visits to the Pacers on Monday and Tuesday. The deal was finalised on Thursday night. Seraphin will not officially sign with the Pacers until next week. The Frenchman’s contract does include a team option in the second year of the deal, according to league sources.

Seraphin played 48 games last season with the New York Knicks. Averaging 3.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks. The big man put up average numbers coming of the bench in New York, but failed to start a single game. Seraphin is heading into his seventh season in the NBA, and is now 26.

What does Seraphin offer the Pacers

Seraphin is the definition of a bench role player. Since beginning his NBA career with the Washington Wizards, Seraphin has played 374 games. Yet the Frenchman has started just 31 games in his entire career.  Al Jefferson and Myles Turner have nothing to worry about, in terms of keeping their starting places.

Seraphin is a good scorer under and around the basket. Providing energy off the bench, Seraphin is a good rotation player to have when Jefferson and Turner are resting. Seraphin is also quite skilled, and always finds ways to put the ball in the basket when in the paint. Seraphin also adds good depth to an already deep Indiana roster.

The Pacers have had a good off-season, and have put themselves in the conversation as one of the best in the Eastern Conference. The energetic Joe Young and the promising Georges Niang were added through the draft. Plus the Pacers signed talented big man Al Jefferson and experienced guard Aaron Brooks in free agency.
