Eddie Rosario is with the Dodgers for their series agains the Texas Rangers.

Dodgers Call Up Former Nemesis Eddie Rosario; Shohei Ohtani on Paternity Leave

Infielder Eddie Rosario has joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, ahead of the series against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, according to Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic. Manager Dave Roberts announced that Shohei Ohtani is expecting the birth of his first child and is not with the team. He is expected to miss up to three days. However, Rosario had not been a member of the 40-man roster, so Los Angeles has moved Edgardo Henriquez to the 60-day injured list. In addition, the Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Noah Davis to take Bobby Miller‘s roster spot. Miller was optioned after a disastrous start against the Colorado Rockies where the right-hander gave up six runs on eight hits in three innings of work.

The Dodger Killer

Eddie Rosario made a name for himself in the 2021 National League Championship Series with the Atlanta Braves. He went an incredible 14-for-24 with three home runs and nine runs batted in. As a result, he won the Most Valuable Player for the series and a contract extension.

Fallen on Hard Times

Unfortunately, Rosario’s success didn’t last long. It led to the signing this past offseason of a minor league contract and a spring training invite from the Dodgers. Rosario spent the exhibition season with a .280 batting average, but because of the depth of the Los Angeles roster was sent to Triple A Oklahoma City. Rosario is batting .339 with two home runs and 12 runs batted in at the minor-league level. He does provide a left-handed bat off the bench for the Dodgers, which is an added bonus.

Rocky Road

Noah Davis will most likely provide arm coverage until one-time closer Evan Phillips returns. The former Colorado Rockies pitcher was with the Boston Red Sox last season. He posted a 5.75 earned run average with 15 strikeouts in just over 20 innings pitched. For what it’s worth, Eddie Rosario will get a taste of the big leagues once again. The Dodgers hope their former nemesis makes the most of it.
