The Colorado Rockies are coming off two straight 100+ loss seasons. Colorado had never had a 100+ loss season despite many mediocre seasons before 2023. The Rockies have continually struggled in the National League West and are perennial cellar dwellers. PECOTA projects more of the same for the Rockies in 2025. Per PECOTA, the Rockies are projected to have the fewest wins in Major League Baseball next season with 55. They are six and seven games behind fellow cellar dwellers, the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins. Colorado is projected 48 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers and 23 games back of the fourth-place San Francisco Giants. 55-106 would be the worst record in Colorado history behind 2023 (59-103) and 2024 (61-101).
Where Do the Rockies Rank in PECOTA’s 2025 MLB Predictions?
The Atlanta Braves are projected to go 92-69 and finish first in the NL East. The Chicago Cubs are projected to win the NL Central with a record of 90-71. Additionally, the NL wild card race is projected to be tight. The New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and Arizona Diamondbacks are all projected to have over 85 wins. The Rockies are projected to score 627 runs, ahead of only the Marlins with 616.
But PECOTA does not envision improvement from the Rockies’ pitching staff, which is projected to give up a league-leading 870 runs. The next closest are the White Sox and Cincinnati Reds, with 816 and 810, respectively. Colorado joins the White Sox and Marlins as the only teams with a zero percent chance of making the postseason.
The Rockies have been mostly inactive this offseason. In an attempt to shed payroll, Colorado non-tendered veteran second baseman Brendan Rodgers and RHP Cal Quantrill. They resigned catcher Jacob Stallings to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million with a mutual option for 2026. The Rockies also signed infielder Thairo Estrada to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. The Rockies remain very young as they continue in their rebuild under manager Bud Black. They are led by center fielder Brenton Doyle and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar. Additionally, Colorado is counting on bounce-back seasons from outfielder Nolan Jones and Kris Bryant. They are also getting RHP Germán Márquez and RHP Antonio Senzatela back in their rotation. But PECOTA predicts another long season for the rebuilding Colorado Rockies.
