Rangers Young Slugger Undergoes Wrist Surgery Again

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung‘s road to staying healthy took another bump. Jeff Wilson of AllDLLs.com reports that the highly touted Jung underwent additional wrist surgery, marking another setback in his quest for a healthy and consistent 2025 season. After a promising debut, Jung’s wrist issues have persisted, raising concerns about his durability and impact on the field. This latest procedure aims to the lingering problems, but the timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Surgery Sidelines Josh Jung Indefinitely

Jung, 26, impressed in his 2023 season with the Rangers, despite injury setbacks. He posted 23 home runs and a .266/.315/.467 line in 122 games. However, a wrist fracture limited his playing time, forcing him to miss most of the season’s first four months. After returning in late July, recurring discomfort sent him back to the injured list in late September. In his final 46 games, Jung’s numbers dipped to .264/.298/.421. Following his latest wrist surgery, the expectation is that Jung will have a normal offseason after completing 3-4 weeks of rehabilitation.

“After evaluating multiple medical opinions regarding the lingering issue with his wrist, it was collectively decided that Josh should have the release surgery now and be fully ready for spring training,” Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile, highly touted prospect Evan Carter recently underwent a minimally invasive ablation procedure to alleviate a persistent back issue. The procedure, which involved removing problematic tissue, aims to resolve the discomfort that restricted Carter to just 45 games this season. The Rangers are optimistic that this will resolve Carter’s back problems, paving the way for a healthy 2024 campaign.
Outfielder Adolis García, a cornerstone of the Rangers’ lineup, has been diagnosed with a patellar tendon strain in his left knee. Fortunately, García is already on the road to recovery, having commenced an eight-week rehabilitation program. García will complete his eight-week rehab and then resume his normal offseason program.
