Mets Sign Former NLCS MVP To Minor League Deal

The New York Mets had Grimace magic (which seems gone now) and are now trying to get some 2021 Eddie Rosario magic, possibly. On Tuesday, before the Mets took the field to begin a series with the Oakland Athletics. New York signed Eddie Rosario to a minor-league contract, per Sports Illustrated’s Pat Ragazzo. Rosario will head to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Rosario is an all-or-nothing, home-run-or-bust type of hitter. After stints in Minnesota and Cleveland, Rosario made a name for himself in Atlanta. Especially in 2021 after being acquired by the Braves at the trade deadline. In the 2021 postseason, he batted .383/.456/.617 with an OPS of 1.073. He notched 23 hits with 3 home runs and 11 RBI. His biggest production came in the 2021 NLCS, where he was named series MVP. He batted .560, a slugging percentage of 1.040, OPS of 1.647 with 14 hits, 3 home runs, and 9 RBI. Due to this, Rosario became a fan favorite in Atlanta through his ups and downs. Rosario was a key contributor in bringing a championship back to the Braves for the first time since 1995.

Rosario’s 2024

In 2023, Rosario hit 21 home runs for a Braves team that set home run records. This year, Rosario signed a deal with the Washington Nationals but was DFA’d in July, setting the stage for a return to Atlanta as the Braves brought him back. Unfortunately, things wouldn’t go as well the second time around for Rosario in Atlanta, and the Braves DFA’d him just one month into the reunion. He’s batted .175 with a .316 slugging percentage and a .531 OPS with the Nationals and Braves.

Rosario In The Mets Outfield Flux

Currently, the Mets have Brandon Nimmo, Harrison Bader, Tyrone Taylor, and Jesse Winker manning their outfield, and they will soon get Starling Marte back. With Rosario starting things off in Triple-A, it’ll be interesting if he is called up to the big league club, and if he is, where does he fit?
