Yankees Acquire Bench Depth From Blue Jays

The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Cam Eden from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash. Eden made his debut with Toronto last season.

Yankees Acquire Outfielder  Cam Eden from Blue Jays

Eden played in five games for the Blue Jays last season, recording a run and a hit. He is from Yuba City, California. The 26-year-old was drafted by the Blue Jays in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Eden was slashing .198/.299/.322 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, and 26 stolen bases at Triple-A this season. Across five minor league seasons, he has stolen 153 bases. The Yankees have done their homework and have acquired bench depth and a pinch runner that they could utilize in the postseason. Eden will fit in perfectly with the Bronx Bombers. But Eden is not on the 40-man roster as of yet.

Ironically, Eden made his debut against the Yankees. Unfortunately, he has had his struggles in the minors, both offensively and defensively. Hopefully, the Yankees can help him find his game. Eden has also played the position of designated hitter, and has primarily played left field as an outfielder. Despite some struggles, his speed and stolen base history have been quite impressive. In fact, Eden has more stolen bases compared to any other Triple-A player. He stole 79 bases in 222 games. So it’s easy to see his appeal to the Yankees. Eden can be comparable to a 2019 Terrance Gore.

While the MLB Trade Deadline is over, players who haven’t been on a 40-man roster still have the capability to be traded. Blue Jays fans were excited to see Eden play in the Buffalo Bisons outfield with Jonatan Clase. But this trade allows him to get a chance to play at a big-league level. Eden could come in as a pinch runner in a significant moment in a game for the Yankees in the postseason.
