Rockies Starting Pitcher Suffers Apparent Finger Injury

During the first game of a three-game series Tuesday night, the Colorado Rockies earned their 42nd win of the season by defeating the New York Mets 6-3. The win was certainly nice since Colorado lost their previous two games against the San Diego Padres. However, Rockies starter Kyle Freeland was taken out of the game during the top of the fifth inning after suffering an apparent finger injury. This won’t be the first time Freeland has been out of action this season. On April 15th, the Rockies used their Opening Day starter as a pinch runner. This resulted in Freeland injuring his shoulder and being moved to the 60-Day IL. For the most part, the Rockies were doomed without their Opening Day starter. However, the team did go on an impressive win streak back at the end of May.

Rockies Starting Pitcher Kyle Freeland Suffers Apparent Finger Injury

It was confirmed that Freeland’s finger injury was a blister on his left index finger which took him out of the game. It shouldn’t be too long of a wait before the Rockies starter is back on the mound. Hopefully, Freeland will be back by the time his next start rolls around. He has been phenomenal since coming back from his injuries in late June. After a disastrous and almost embarrassing start to the season, Freeland has certainly turned the tides of his season around. Even while dealing with this injury, the Rockies hope he’ll continue to bring the heat. Colorado needs all the help they can get to show this season hasn’t been a complete failure. The Rockies will want to surpass their 2023 franchise low of 59 wins, and Freeland is one starter who can give the team some hope.

Freeland’s 2024 Stats

Freeland has made 12 starts this season. He has a 3-4 record and a 5.65 ERA through 63 2/3 innings pitched. Freeland has given up 44 runs on 78 hits while striking out 55 batters. For the month of July, he put up a 3-1 record. On Wednesday, July 31st, the Rockies starter had his best outing of the season. During a 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Angels, Freeland pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out six batters. He has made huge strides since a wild start to the season and being on the injured list for over two months. Colorado would be thrilled if their starter continued to bring quality starts to the mound.
