On Tuesday evening, the Washington Nationals traded reliever Dylan Floro to the Arizona Diamondbacks for third baseman Andrés Chaparro, according to multiple sources. The reports came in shortly after the MLB trade deadline wrapped up at around 6:00 pm. This is the fourth trade that Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo made before the deadline. He sent away outfielder Lane Thomas to the Cleveland Guardians yesterday, outfielder Jesse Winker to the New York Mets this past Sunday, and setup reliever Hunter Harvey to the Kansas City Royals back on July 13.

Nationals Trade Dylan Floro to Diamondbacks
With Floro off to Arizona, Washington acquired Triple-A third baseman Andres Chaparro. The 25-year-old Chaparro is currently hitting .332 with a .967 OPS, 26 doubles, 19 home runs, and 19 RBI this season for the Reno Aces of Triple-A, despite not being a top 30 prospect in the D-Backs system. The Venezuelan third baseman originally signed with the New York Yankees as an international free agent in July 2015 and had played within the team’s farm system until 2023. He then signed a minor league contract with Arizona last November.

He’s hitting .332 with a .967 OPS, 26 doubles, 19 home runs and 75 RBIs this season at Triple-A. Has also played some first base and DH.
After playing for various MLB teams, the 33-year-old Floro signed with the Nationals back in December 2023 for one year worth $2.25 million plus incentives. This season, the right-handed reliever appeared in 51 games and had 40 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings pitched along with a 2.06 ERA, while giving up 42 hits and 12 earned runs.
Floro was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He has had tenures with the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, and Minnesota Twins. He won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020. The veteran reliever should help bolster the bullpen for the defending National League champs.
Dylan Floro says he figured nothing happened when 6 pm Eastern passed. Then he got called into Davey Martinez’s office, was told he was traded to the Diamondbacks and initially thought Davey was playing a joke on him. He’s currently on his way to the other clubhouse.
