The Boston Red Sox continue to get good news this week. Not only are they playing their best baseball of the season, but they have activated catcher Connor Wong off the Paternity Leave List, according to Chris of MassLive.com. Veteran catcher Tyler Heineman and pitcher Isaiah Campbell were optioned to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Wong missed the maximum three games while on paternity leave, and will rejoin the club on Friday against the San Diego Padres. Wong will settle back in as the No. 1 starter for the Red Sox with Reese McGuire serving as his backup.

Red Sox Activate Connor Wong
Wong has been one of the best catchers in the league this season. He’s hitting .330 with a .870 OPS, seven home runs and 29 RBI in 57 games. His return will certainly help Boston’s offense, which didn’t get much out of McGuire. Wong ranks third amongst Red Sox position players with a 2.0 WAR. Wong has appeared in 57 contests this campaign, 50 of which have come behind the plate.
Heineman made one appearance on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. He’s batting .245 with a .719 OPS and two homers at Triple-A Worcester. Campbell made one appearance for Boston after returning from injury. He gave up three runs in 1/3 of an inning on Monday against the Blue Jays. With one extra player going down to Triple-A, the Red Sox have an open roster spot. In a total of eight games, Campbell has a 16.20 ERA. His numbers are much better in the minor leagues this season as Campbell owns a 2.19 ERA in 12 1/3 innings in Triple-A.
Wong’s return comes a day after first baseman Triston Casas who is ready to begin his rehab after a rib injury from April.
