Yankees Prospects That Are Possible Trade Options

The New York Yankees are pressing hard towards a shot at a pennant, and they won’t think twice about possible trade options to solidify it.

Yankees Prospects That Are Possible Trade Options

The Bronx Bombers are living up to their title. They are displaying arguably the best lineup in baseball and one of the best-performing pitching staffs in the league. The team is executing on each end of the field to add numbers to the win column.

What goes up must come down. Naturally, the heat of this Yankees offense may simmer, along with other semi-struggling parts. This is where possible trade options come into play.  New York may have pieces they’re willing to part ways with at the trade deadline, even if that means sacrificing the future talent for Ring 28.

Possible Trade Options: Roderick Arias

The Yankees need to consider retention, payroll, and control. Various names are up for arbitration after the season, and there will be plenty of bills to fit. The shortstop position currently stands occupied, as New York employs Anthony Volpe.

Volpe is eligible for arbitration in 2026 and is listed as a free agent in 2029. What does this mean? The next guy up, Roderick Arias, may not be in demand at the moment, making him one of various possible trade options.

Arias may be the most valuable trade piece if push comes to shove. The fourth-ranked Yankees prospect slashes a .227/.326/.387 on the year with 35 RBIs, 51 hits, and five bombs.

He’s highly projectable as a starting shortstop with a three—to five-hole bat. Given Arias’s high value, a trade return would probably send a big name such as Pete Alonso.

Although this is not practicable as Anthony Rizzo occupies first base, Rizzo has been struggling lately, and the Mets most likely will be sellers. Alonso could be a corner infield addition to provide that extra offensive piece.

Possible Trade Options: RHP Zach Messinger

Any organization’s baseball development prides itself on producing arms with longevity. It’s tough to see the Yankees dealing with any of their top pitching prospects; however, it takes money to make money.

The 21st-ranked Yankees prospect is a name thrown around and mentioned enthusiastically by major platforms. Right-hander Zach Messinger would fit the description in a list of possible trade options.

The 6’6” righty was selected in the 13th round of the 2021 MLB draft from the University of Virginia. As a development prodigy, the club is impressed with the outcome of this selection, and their gamble in the 13th round may be a long-term win.

Messinger is 24 years of age and offers a four-pitch mix with a refined fastball commanding well at 94 mph max. He’s projectable with pitch-ability and a trustworthy put-away option in his slider.

Messinger has pitched 64.1 innings in AA-Somerset with a 3.50 ERA, 74 strikeouts, and 20 walks. This arm could be a key piece or a fraction of a deal towards club improvements for New York.

Possible Trade Option: LHP Henry Lalane

Another low-key arm on the come-up is a multi-sport southpaw who signed for a thick signing bonus in the international period 2021. Henry Lalane projects quickly and forward. His makeup, attributes, and abilities scream promotion.

In three seasons of pro ball, he holds a 3.56 ERA with a 5-6 record and a 5.25 RA9. He is currently on the injured list.

This lefty could also be a deal-making stocking gift in a trade package.
