Steals are not just numbers on a scoreboard; they are game-changers. They provide enormous opportunities for the team to score. With speedy baserunners like Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle, who has 14 of the team’s 31 steals, the chances to score increase significantly. Doyle, alongside veteran Ryan McMahon, has led the Rockies offense to key victories over their past couple of series. The 26-year-old center fielder leads the Rockies in steals by double digits. If he continues to play just how he is, that total may surpass his rookie steal total of 22. Colorado will look to continue to win the series with the help of Doyle and get out of that last-place spot in the NL West division.

Doyle leads the Rockies with 14 steals; the Rockies player with the second-most steals is Ezequiel Tovar, with four. While it’s great the Rockies center fielder is leading the team in steals and has an enormous chance of passing his rookie total of 22 steals, it’s not great for the Rockies as a whole. When Nolan Jones and Jordan Beck come back from their injuries, Colorado must let these guys run the base paths more often. Even Tovar, who leads the team with 65 hits, must put more effort on the base paths. In May, the 26-year-old center fielder has stolen ten bases. In June 2000, Tom Goodwin put up a Rockies record of 17 stolen bases in a month. Although Doyle won’t surpass that record this month, he has the next four months to continue his destruction on the base paths.
This is a team that has just looked unbelievable in the past couple of weeks. A big way Colorado can keep their hot streak going is to take the risk and steal some bases. This will not only give the Rockies more chances to score a run home, but take charge and show some of these teams full of all-stars, that Colorado can climb the steepest of hills and play with the best of them. Despite facing the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, the Rockies are extremely confident. With Doyle being one of the team’s top guys, he’ll look to surpass his rookie numbers by a long shot, fueling the hope and optimism of Rockies fans.
Could Brenton Doyle Break the Rockies Franchise Record For Stolen Bases?
While it may not be this season, the 26-year-old center fielder will one day look to near or even surpass outfielder Willy Taveras’ 68 steals, which is the Rockies franchise record, back during the 2008 regular season. Last season, National League MVP Ronald Acûna Jr. had 73. It may be challenging, but Doyle can undoubtedly try to aim for outfielder Eric Young’s 53 steals, which he put up back in 1996. Colorado looks to win as many games as possible, especially after their recent unbelievable run. Doyle’s speed on the base paths makes anything possible for the Rockies.
