Mets To Interview Craig Counsell

The New York Mets have been without a manager for a month after parting ways with Buck Showalter. Since then, the Mets have been on the lookout for a new skipper for 2024 and beyond. One of the main candidates they’ve been linked to is Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell. With former Brewers executive David Stearns now in charge of the Mets as President of Baseball Operations, reports have surfaced that he wants to bring in his former manager from Milwaukee. On Wednesday, SNY’s Andy Martino reported that the Mets had been granted permission from the Brewers to interview Counsell. To this point, he would be the first to interview for the Mets managerial position this offseason.

Martino goes on to say that Counsell and the Mets will explore other opportunities after this interview. Counsell will look at other clubs, including the Brewers, and the Mets will interview other managerial candidates.

In nine seasons with the Brewers, Counsell had a record of 707-625 and made the playoffs five times. Which includes making the postseason in four consecutive seasons from 2018-2021. The farthest the Brewers got under Counsell was in 2018 as they advanced to the NLCS before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets are looking to find a manager to bring stability to the team as they’ve struggled to find a manager go past two seasons since Terry Collins from 2011-2017.
