A wild Tuesday in the MLB produced excellent performances on the diamond and some questionable decisions from front offices. On the field, San Fransico Giants’ pitcher Alex Cobb was one hit away from a no-hitter until Cincinnati Reds’ Spencer Steer hit a ninth-inning RBI double. Chicago Cubs’ Justin Steele (6 IP, 6 SO, W) and Atlanta Braves’ Charlie Morton (6 IP, 8 SO, W) delivered a pair of huge wins for their ball clubs. The Los Angeles Angels waived several players, including Randal Grichuk and Lucas Giolito trade acquisitions, while the New York Yankees waived outfielder Harrison Bader.

MLB Betting Picks of the Day 8/30
Another 3-0 yesterday, and we are officially undefeated this week. Yesterday, our two pitchers hit their strikeouts prop, and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers beat the over. Tampa Bay Rays’ starter Aaron Civale recorded five strikeouts in a win over the Miami Marlins. Kansas City Royals’ Cole Ragans recorded nine in their team’s loss over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Diamondbacks and Dodgers combined for ten runs for our last play to hit.

LA ANGELS VS. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES: TREA TURNER o1.5 H+R+RBI (-160)
The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the hottest teams in the NL and are going for their second straight sweep today vs. the Los Angeles Angels. The Phillies are 8-2 in their last ten games and are on a five-game win streak. For the Angels, they are 3-7 in their previous ten games and are now 12.5 GB in both their division and the AL Wild Card.
One reason for the Phillies run was the resurgence of Trea Turner. Over the past month, Turner has slashed .330/.370/.670 with eight home runs. Trea has hit .667 off Reid Detmers, who has a 6.82 ERA in his last seven games. Look for Trea to target Detmer’s slider (thrown 35%); he has hit .336 off the pitch this season.
Take Trea Turner’s H+R+RBI for a solid play or his home run prop (+290) for more juice.
SAN DIEGO PADRES VS. ST. LOUIS CARDINALS: o9.5 runs (+102)
This match-up stood out immediately as a couple of pitchers are still looking for their best stuff this season. San Diego Padres’ starter Rich Hill has given up 14 runs in his last 14 innings pitched, and St. Louis Cardinals’ Miles Mikolas has given up 26 earned runs in his previous 36 innings.
For the Cardinals, Paul Goldschmidt (.440, 2 HR), Willson Contreras (.444), Nolan Arenado (1 HR), and Tommy Edman (.375) will all look to continue their previous success off of Hill. San Diego batters Garrett Cooper (.286, 1 HR), Ha-Seong Him (.333), Manny Machado (1 HR), and Juan Soto (.357, 1 HR) will be looking to capitalize on this favorable match-up.
Rich Hill (4.09 career ERA vs. St. Louis) and Miles Mikolas (5.40 ERA at home this season) could run into trouble against these lineups. Take the over on the run total in this game.
CINCINNATI REDS VS. SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS: GIANTS ML (-166)
The Cincinnati Reds’ playoff hopes are slipping each day, and they will look to right the ship against the San Fransisco Giants this afternoon. Unfortunately, that will be easier said than done. The Giants are 4-2 against the Reds this year and have been a solid 38-30 at Oracle Park this season.
The Giants will send out Logan Webb, who has been dominant against the Reds and at home. His career stats against the Reds: 2-0, 0.90 ERA, and 18 SO. His season ERA has been solid: 3.51 and a 2.48 ERA at Oracle Park. Since returning from injury, Cincinnati Reds Reed’s pitcher Hunter Greene hasn’t gotten going this season and has a 17.55 ERA in 6.2 IP.
If Webb can give them six to six-to-seven solid innings, the Giants’ bullpen ranks 5th in the NL in ERA and should shut down the Reds. Take the Giants ML or their first five innings ML at -165.
