MLB Betting Picks of the Day 8/15

Monday night in The Show was dominated by superstar and up-and-coming starting pitchers across the league. We had our usual suspects dominating: Texas Rangers’ Max Scherzer (7 IP, 11 SO, W), Tampa Bay Rays’ Tyler Glasnow (6 IP, 7 SO, W), and Atlanta Braves Max Fried (6 IP, 2 ER, W) all gave their teams chances to win last night. Then, we had some young arms showing us what they could do. Baltimore Orioles’ Grayson Rodriguez (7 IP, 6 SO, W), Kansas City Royals’ Brady Singer (7 IP, 8 SO), and Miami Marlins’ Braxton Garrett (5 IP, W) all set up their clubs with great performances last night.

Unfortunately, we only had one batter of our three starts last night. Miami Marlins slugger Josh Bell hit his 16th home run of the season, his fifth since joining the Marlins, in their 5-1 win over the Houston Astros. Our other two picks, Arizona Diamondbacks Tommy Pham and Baltimore Orioles James McCann, received days off on Monday.

Tuesday night in the MLB features every team playing, and LWOS has three baseball prop bets for red-hot hitters coming into tonight’s action. Don’t forget to tail and BOL!

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES v. TORONTO BLUE JAYS: GUERRERO JR. o1.5 TB (+135)

This should be one of the better series of the week as the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies look to take this series against the Toronto Blue Jays, who sit in the last AL Wild Card position. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to stop that from happening. In his career against Phillies’ starter Zach Wheeler, he has hit .286 with one home run.

In the past week, Guerrero Jr. has gone .310 at the plate and has hit safely in six of the last seven games, with three being multi-hit efforts. Wheeler has been serviceable this season for the Phillies but hasn’t reached the ace status we have become accustomed to in recent years, with his hard-hit rate (37.7%) the highest it’s been in his whole career.

Wheeler’s 6.55 ERA at the Rogers Center and 5.19 against the Blue Jays in his career might be all that Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays need in tonight’s game. Target Vlad’s total bases prop or HR+RBI total (1.5, -110).

DETROIT TIGERS v. MINNESOTA TWINS: CARPENTER o1.5 TB (+115)

Detroit Tigers’ Kerry Carpenter has been one of the hottest batters on the planet in the past two weeks. He has slashed .340/.407/.623 and is currently riding a 10-game hit streak with six multi-hit efforts.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Bailey Ober got rocked by this same Tigers team last time. He gave up 11 hits and four earned runs in five innings pitched and has gone 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA in his previous seven games. Ober has a 5.30 ERA in his career vs. Detroit and has given up three and four earned runs against them this year.

Carpenter has a career slash line of .368/.405/.500 against the Twins and has hit .357 at Target Field. Ober will lean on his fastball (46% thrown), and Carpenter has slashed .273/.399/.606 on the four-seam all season. Lock in Carpenter’s total bases prop, or take his odds to hit a home run at +450.

SEATTLE MARINERS v. KANSAS CITY ROYALS: RODRIGUEZ o2.5 H+R+RBI (+100)

Going a bit under the radar is the second-half Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez is having. He has slashed .280/.346/.508 since the All-Star break and has hits in three of his last four games. Rodriguez also loves whenever he gets to face these Royals; he has gone .412/.474/.588 all-time against the Midwest club.

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jordan Lyles has had a rough go of it this season; his ERA sits at 6.13 for the year and 5.98 against the Mariners for his career. Lyles will throw that curveball and sweeper combo almost 40% of the time, with whiff rates at 24.2% and 21.8%.

Rodriguez has been teeing off on the off-speed this year (.275/.384/.503) and has an average exit velocity in the top 5% of hitters this season. Look to target Julio’s H+R+RBI total (o2.5. +100) or take his total bases prop (o1.5, -135).
