Aaron Judge has a right hip strain, and the New York Yankees are awaiting an update on its severity. Judge initially injured the hip on a slide earlier this week against the Minnesota Twins. While scary at first, it’s now looking like the injury won’t keep Judge out overly long. He has missed the last two games, but the hope is his MRI results come back with good news and he’ll be day-to-day.

Aaron Judge Suffers Right Hip Strain
The hip did not keep Judge out of the lineup initially. He started the Yankees’ series opener on Thursday night against the Texas Rangers. He came out of the came in the early innings after appearing to hurt his wrist on a swing. That looked to be the reason for Judge’s departure, but it later turned out to be the lingering hip injury. The callup of outfielder Jake Bauers aroused fears that Judge would end up on the injured list. However, the most recent updates from the Yankees have been optimistic that an IL stint won’t be necessary.

A prolonged stay on the IL from Judge would have made an already awful injury situation even worse for New York. With multiple starting pitchers and Giancarlo Stanton all on the shelf, the club currently seems like a shell of itself. If Judge can come back sooner rather than later, the timing would be perfect. The Yankees’ lineup currently sits in a collective funk. It was already struggling without Stanton, and in the last two games sans Judge, the team has scored a total of two runs. While he has not quite reached his pace from last year so far, Judge’s presence in the lineup remains invaluable. Hopes are high that the MRI results come back clean and Judge returns later this week. But if the news is worse than expected, the Yankees will be in a very rough place. An official announcement could come as late as Monday.
