Jason Heyward to the DL and Corresponding Chicago Cubs Roster Moves
On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs designated utility outfielder and pinch-hitter Matt Szczur for assignment. Unfortunately, this was to make room on the roster for a relief pitcher. The Cubs reported that they have traded Szczur to the San Diego Padres for right-handed pitcher Justin Hancock. Chicago also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro from the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. To make room for Floro, the Cubs sent outfielder Jason Heyward to the 10-day DL, retroactive to May 6.
Justin Hancock
Justin Hancock has spent 2017 with the Double-A San Antonio Missions. He has 10 appearances in relief with 13 total innings pitched. Owning an ERA of 6.23, and a WHIP of 1.846, Hancock has given up nine earned runs this year. He is a seven year farm hand, with a career minor league ERA of 3.91 and a WHIP of 1.513.

Jason Heyward
Outfielder Jason Heyward sprained his right finger late last week. He was on the game day roster during the marathon 18 inning game between the Cubs and the Yankees. The finger injury made him the only position player not to appear in the game. The move to the ten-day disabled list allowed the Cubs to add Floro to the roster in tonight’s game to bolster a very tired bullpen.
