On Monday night at Coors Field, Wil Myers hit for the cycle, becoming just the second San Diego Padre to accomplish that feat in the 48-year history of the franchise. Myers strode to the plate against Carlos Estevez in the top of the eighth needing a triple to complete the honor. He came through, lifting a ball to the gap in left center that got by Colorado Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra. Myers sprinted around to third to the delight of his manager and teammates.

Padres Wil Myers Hits for Cycle
Myers had previously singled in the first inning, doubled in the second, and slammed a home run in the sixth, leading the way in the Padres 5-3 win over Colorado. His clutch triple was only the sixth of his career, in nearly 1,700 Major League at-bats.
The 26-year-old Myers, a former American League Rookie of the Year, has been the centerpiece of the Padres offense since his trade from the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the 2015 season. He was San Diego’s lone All-Star when the city hosted the Mid-Summer Classic last July.
Myers’ hot start to the 2017 season is one big reason why the rebuilding Padres are a respectable 4-4 to start the season. If the Padres are to have any success at all this season, not something many would have bet on prior to Opening Day and not something many will bet on even now, Myers will have to be at the heart of it.
Coincidentally, the only other cycle in San Diego history also occurred at Coors Field, when Matt Kemp completed one in 2015.
