Jose Reyes was one of the most exciting New York Mets players in their history. He was arguably the best shortstop in New York Mets history. Reyes, after 16 seasons, called it a career Wednesday afternoon, as he announced it on his twitter account.

Achievements
For as much as his popularity decreased after leaving the Mets, Reyes is the franchise leader in triples as solen bases with 113 and 517, respectively. He made his debut in 2003 and won the 2011 batting title in his final year in New York. The four-time all-star never won a championship with the Mets. He was a key contributor to the 2006 Mets that fell a game short of the World Series.
He would later go on and sign with the Miami Marlins and then was later traded to both the Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays. His numbers started to decline and the Rockies released him, but he had a reunion with the Mets in 2016.
Reyes hit a game-tying two-run home run before Asdrubal Cabrera hit a walk-off three-run home run in his best game after returning to the Mets as a part-time player. Reyes also became a mentor with the younger players including Amed Rosario.
Controversies
While Reyes won the batting title outright in 2011, it came with a bit of controversy. He had a slim lead over Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers and exited after his bunt single in the first inning. Braun ended up going 0-3, and Reyes won the award.
In 2015, Reyes was arrested on domestic abuse charges and subsequently was suspended for the first 51 games of the 2016 season without pay when he was playing with the Rockies.
While it was an up-and-down road for Reyes in his career, he helped make one of the most exciting infields in baseball with David Wright and Carlos Delgado. He finished with 2,138 hits and is among the Mets all-time leaders in almost every offensive category.
