The Texas Rangers organization faces serious allegations out of the Dominican Republic. Eight Rangers prospects have been questioned by the police in relation to an alleged sexual assault and hazing incident. Video surfaced on Snapchat of the players forcibly masturbating an underage prospect. The prospect’s name is being withheld at this time. The organization received notification shortly after an uninvolved player told a staff member. The questioning originally took place on November 8.
Rangers Prospects Face Sexual Assault Allegations
The Dominican officials have not yet pressed charges. They plan on sorting out the specifics in the video first. They expect to charge the four players that are holding down the underage player. Two of the players involved and expected to receive charges are Rougned Odor and Yohel Pozo. Odor is the younger brother of Rangers starting second baseman Rougned Odor. Pozo is one of the organization’s top catching prospects.
Player hazing is nothing new. Fans see it every year when veterans have the rookies dress up in costumes. This, however, is a clear example of hazing going overboard. Action needs to taken now, and someone needs to step in. Other instances of reported hazing include head shaving, forcing a player to take his clothes off, and at least one other instance in which forced masturbation took place. The Rangers are not the only organization that has seen this sickening form of hazing take place.
In a statement released to Yahoo Sports, the organization had the following to say:
“The Texas Rangers became aware of an incident at our Academy in the Dominican Republic and we acted promptly to open an investigation. We have reported the incident and are cooperating fully with Major League Baseball and the authorities in the Dominican Republic. With this being an ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment at this time.”
