The Los Angeles Dodgers prospect, Jacob Scavuzzo has been locked in at the plate for the entire season. The Tulsa Drillers star has been hitting for power, production and for average in the Texas League at Double-A. The outfielder was selected in the 21st round of the 2012 draft. Injuries have slowed his development a tad bit, that is, until this season.

Jacob Scavuzzo – Rising Prospect
Numbers and Stuff
Last week (July 23rd), Scavuzzo won the Texas League Player of the Week award. All of July Scavuzzo has been red-hot hitting .378 with six home run’s and 18 runs batted in, therefore he may garner the award for the month as well. His batting average at Tulsa is .302, and his overall between OKC and Double-A is .284. 80 hits in 282 at-bats.
A closer look at the pride of Villa Park High’s numbers reveal that Scavuzzo loves to thrive under pressure. The 24 year old slugger has hit .343 with runner’s in scoring position, along with 7 home runs and 43 RBI’s. When Jacob Scavuzzo bats in the fourth spot of the line-up he feasts, hitting .370 with six round trippers and 18 runs knocked in. Clutch happens to be a fantastic quality in the middle of your order, with that in mind, Scavuzzo excels.

Tell me about your 2018 season, are you right where you want to be as far as results/development? “This season has been good to me so far. It’s always nice to see some results from all the work in the off-season’s I have been putting in.” Scavuzzo humbly continued. “I am right where I want to be as a player and as a teammate contributing to winning on whichever team I am on.” (Scavuzzo has played for both Tulsa and Oklahoma City in 2018)
In spring training, I asked a few Dodger coaches who was gonna have a breakout year, your name (Jacob Scavuzzo) kept coming up, why? Was it an adjustment you made at the plate? Or just simply that you are fully healthy? “I think it’s probably a mix of both. The past 2 years my seasons were injury filled so I changed my offseason routine and my prep work each day to make sure my body was to perform the way I wanted it to. Along with making some mechanical adjustments I made at the plate to use my body length and strength more efficiently.”
Trade Deadline
The Dodgers front office has the luxury of having a large pool of talent from which to draw from. Jacob Scavuzzo is not rated in the top 30 in the organization, and yet, he could be a valuable piece in a package for a top line starting pitcher, or a late-inning reliever. The slugger from Orange California could break onto a MLB field with another club within a few months, if moved.
Scavuzzo is a Southern California native and it would be amazing to see him make it big in Dodger Blue. For the time being, he is crushing Texas League pitching and developing into the type of hitter envisioned when he was drafted in 2012.
