Dobbins to Join Six-Man Rotation
Derrick Gold, the Cardinals’ writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, announced the Cardinals’ plan to utilize a six-man rotation soon, with Dobbins being the sixth man. Dobbins pitched five innings out of the bullpen in Friday’s win, giving up no runs and picking up the win. It is known when Dobbins will make his start, but we can assume the Cardinals will schedule it in relation to his appearance on Friday. Expect to see Dobbins start either this coming Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, although the Cardinals will, of course, make the official decision.
Dobbins has been a strong option for the Cardinals this season. He has been an innings eater out of the bullpen. He recorded an 11-out save last Sunday against the Chicago Cubs. He has made one start this season, pitching into the fifth inning and giving up three runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 30th.

The Cardinals have a busy June. They only have three off days left in the month. After a day off this Monday, the Cardinals will play 11 straight games before their next off day. After that, they will play eight games. It makes sense that the Cardinals will want to add a starter to their rotation to space out the starts. The rotation is full of young arms, so it is important to manage their workload when possible. For Dobbins, it will be an opportunity to earn a permanent spot on the roster.
Urias Rehab Delayed
Urias was placed on the injured list with right elbow lateral epicondylitis on May 5th. He had recently started a rehab assignment with the Memphis Redbirds, but is returning to St. Louis for further evaluation. Urias injured his elbow, not the originally injured elbow, while swinging the bat.
The Cardinals are slowly returning to health, but it appears they may have to wait a little longer to get Urias back. Last Word On Baseball will provide updates as they become available.
Play Ball!
The Cardinals will continue their weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds with games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Both games start at 1:15 P.M. Central Time.
