The Baltimore Orioles will have to go without their Opening Day starter for at least a couple of weeks. They placed left-hander Trevor Rogers on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 4/26 with an undisclosed illness. In a corresponding roster move, Baltimore recalled right-hander Cameron Foster from Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles announced both moves on Wednesday evening, when they proved to be idle. Their game against the Houston Astros was postponed due to rain, and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Orioles Place Trevor Rogers (Illness) on Injured List
Rogers was the scheduled starter for Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees, but will now be out until mid-May. It is a big blow to an Orioles pitching staff already beleaguered by injuries and struggles. Fellow top starter Zach Eflin is out for the season after Tommy John surgery, and other members of the rotation, including Kyle Bradish and Shane Baz, are off to slow starts this season. The O’s will need to ride out the injury bug to return to contention after a disappointing 2025 season.
Never forget the improbable and never-to-be duplicated 2025 campaign from Opening Day starter Trevor Rogers. Good thing the GM went and spent real money on a top line starter! … Oh wait they’re telling me Jackass Mike Elias mooked it up again. Nevermind https://t.co/jbkJSGdBJL

In his third season with Baltimore since arriving via trade with the Miami Marlins in July 2024, Rogers started the 2026 campaign with a 2-3 record, 4.75 ERA, 1.451 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings (six starts). An offseason injury in January 2025 limited him to 18 starts last season, but once he returned, he was a bright spot in an overall rough year for the O’s. Rogers went 9-3 with a 1.81 ERA, a 0.903 WHIP, and 103 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings. This sterling performance garnered him a ninth-place finish in American League Cy Young Award voting.
Cameron Foster Recalled
The 27-year-old rookie reliever Foster has already seen time at the big league level this season. In 5 2/3 innings of work across four appearances, he has a 6.35 ERA and seven strikeouts. He will provide bullpen help in the short term as the Orioles continue to piece together any quality pitching they can.
