The Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization announced Thursday the posting of third baseman Song Sung-mun. MLB has notified all 30 teams of his posting. Unlike the NPB postings, the KBO’s signing window is 30 days, beginning on November 22nd.

Song, 29, had a slow start to his professional career, spending his early seasons as more of a role player than a true everyday force. But over the past two years, he has emerged as one of the most dynamic hitters in the KBO. His 2024 campaign marked a true breakout, as the left-handed hitter posted an impressive .340/.409/.518 slash line while adding 19 home runs and 21 stolen bases, which showcased a rare blend of contact ability, on-base skills, and speed. That season put him firmly on MLB radars, signaling that his development had reached another level.

Although his batting average dipped slightly in 2025, Song continued trending upward in the areas that matter most for major-league evaluators. He slashed .315/.387/.530 while making significant gains in his power output, belting 26 home runs and swiping 25 bases. The improved slugging percentage, paired with consistent plate discipline and sustained athleticism, highlighted his evolution from a high-contact hitter into a more complete offensive threat. For MLB clubs seeking a left-handed bat with impact potential and multi-category production, Song’s back-to-back seasons of growth have cemented him as one of the most intriguing international options available this offseason.

Another good sign for Song is his low strikeout percentage, sitting at 14.9% in 2025.

Multiple MLB teams are kicking the tires on Song, drawn by the possibility of acquiring a relatively affordable but high-upside international contributor.
