Blue Jays Rookie Reliever Providing Bullpen Stability

Toronto Blue Jays rookie reliever Braydon Fisher has been making a memorable impression in the bullpen this season. The youngster was a trade acquisition last year, coming to the Blue Jays organization from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for utility player Cavan Biggio.

Braydon Fisher Becoming Key Reliever for Blue Jays

Fisher’s Success in 2025

Fisher has found consistent success with the Blue Jays this season. The 25-year-old right-hander has established himself as a steady hand in the bullpen following his MLB debut earlier this year.

Despite being briefly optioned to the minors in August to make room for ace Shane Bieber, he has since been recalled and has proven his value. He’s also performed well in significant games. This is crucial as the Blue Jays look to hold on to their lead in the American League East. In his outing on Sunday against the New York Yankees, he struck out the side in the seventh inning, a bright spot in a game Toronto lost.

He also holds a strong record with an ERA of 2.88, adding to the Blue Jays success and making him a valuable, consistent arm in the bullpen. This is something the Blue Jays need as they ran into bullpen woes right before the month of September.
MLB Debut and Rookie Success

Fisher made his Major League debut on May 11, finishing a blowout game against the Seattle Mariners. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 9-1 Blue Jays win. He quickly became one of the Blue Jays’ most consistent and reliable relievers, earning the trust of the coaching staff.

Impact on the Blue Jays

Fisher’s performance has been a significant bright spot for the Blue Jays’ bullpen, providing much-needed depth. His emergence has come in a pivotal season, with the Blue Jays’ most successful stretch in years helping them lead the AL East.

The key to Fisher’s success has been his strong command of his slider and curveball. This has generated a high whiff rate and low batting averages against him. His high strikeout rate (32.1%), low number of walks (13, a 7.9% rate), and solid velocity have made him a reliable reliever for the Blue Jays.

Analyzing Fisher’s Key to Success this season

Dominant Breaking Pitches

His slider and curveball are his primary weapons, producing a high number of swings and misses, holding opponents to a low expected batting average (.212) and slugging percentage (.272).

Improved Command
After walking a high number of batters in the minors, Fisher significantly improved his strike rate. In addition, it is the highest of any Blue Jays pitcher, allowing him to become more dominant on the mound.
Compelling Developmental Story
After finding a new home in the Blue Jays organization in June of 2024, Fisher has earned the status as one of their best developmental success stories, as he’s helped to stabilize the bullpen.
