Dodgers recall reliever Edgardo Henriquez

Dodgers Recall Hard-Throwing Right-Handed Reliever, DFA Veteran Trivino

The Los Angeles Dodgers are shuffling their bullpen again, recalling hard-throwing right-handed reliever Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City. To make room on the 40-man roster for the young hurler, they are designating right-handed veteran reliever Lou Trivino for assignment. As it stands, they currently have 38 players on the roster.

Dodgers Recall Edgardo Henriquez, DFA Lou Trivino

Bolstering a Beleaguered Bullpen

Lou Trevino was picked after injuries to Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol, and Evan Phillips have left them short-handed for the majority of the season. The right-hander had been released by the San Francisco Giants. Early in his Los Angeles tenure, Trivino looked like a worthy fill-in. However, lately, the veteran has been struggling with his control as well as avoiding hard contact. Consequently, the right-hander’s ERA  has ballooned to 4.42 with 29 strikeouts and eight walks in 38 2/3 innings pitched. It is clear that the Dodgers need a fresh arm..

The Young Gun

Impressively, Henriquez has topped 99 miles per hour on the radar gun. The youngster made his major-league debut last season with the Dodgers. In limited time, he has a 2.70 ERA in three and 1/3 innings. He has five strikeouts and one save. Unfortunately, his spring training was cut short this year after he broke his foot in an off-the-field incident. After his recovery, he has spent time at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Not surprisingly, he appears to be a little rusty as his ERA is 5.89. However, Henriquez has 26 strikeouts over 18 1/3 innings, so he does miss bats.

Some Good News to Report….

Blake Treinen and Blake Snell continue their rehab without incident. If all continues to trend upwards, they will be activated soon. In addition, Freddie Freeman, who was hit on the inside of his wrist and immediately left the game yesterday, is back in the lineup tonight.

After losing 10 of their last 12 games, the Dodgers need all the help they can get.
