Juan Nicasio, the veteran pitcher, may have had a tumultuous 2017, being a member of three teams, but now he hopes to settle down again as it was reported today he has agreed to sign with the Seattle Mariners for two-years for a total of $17 million. The deal is pending a physical.

Nicasio’s Career Profile
Nicasio would start his journey when he signed with the Colorado Rockies at the age of 19. He would start playing for the DSL Rockies of the Dominican Summer League in 2006. He would make his MLB debut five years later for the Rockies in 2011. Nicasio would go on to spend four years in Colorado, gathering a shocking 5.03 ERA with 294 strikeouts in 381 innings pitched. A month into the 2014 off-season, Nicasio was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named later, disclosed later as right fielder Noel Cuevas. Nicasio would sign a one-year deal in December with the Dodgers to avoid arbitration. After his one year in Los Angeles, Nicasio would sign another one-year deal. This one year deal sent him to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Nicasio would end up playing two years in Pittsburgh, gathering a adequate 3.94 ERA with 198 strikeouts in 178 innings pitched. During his time in Pittsburgh, he pitched an immaculate inning, becoming the 74th pitcher to ever do so. An immaculate inning is when a pitcher pitches a half inning with nine pitches and struck out all three batters. Nicasio joins some impressive company with this performance such as Lefty Grove, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson.
On September 1st, 2016, Nicasio was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies off of waivers. But just five days after being put on the main roster, Nicasio was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for second baseman Eliezer Alvarez. In his career, Nicasio has a 4.55 ERA with 569 strikeouts in 629.2 innings pitched.

For the Mariners, they gain a flexible pitcher who can suit up in the bullpen or in the rotation. Nicasio still has great promise in MLB, now he has a great chance to prove it.
