Three Pitchers the Mets Could Trade Next

After the trade of David Peterson to the Chicago Cubs, it looks as if the fire sale may have started for the New York Mets.  The Mets currently have the third-worst record in the National League and were just swept by the Cubs in a four-game set. They are free-falling at the moment, and with the news of manager Carlos Mendoza being fired, it seems as if David Stearns is officially punting on the season. Of course, barring some astronomical turnaround from the team. As to who is next to be traded is a question mark right now, but there are three possibilities as to who may be next to go.

Three Pitchers the Mets Could Trade Next

1. Freddy Peralta

Freddy Peralta is a big piece that the Mets acquired in the offseason that has been underwhelming. On the year, Peralta has a record of 5-6 with an ERA of 4.53. A very disappointing season for a player in his contract year. Peralta has expressed that he is willing to sign an extension with the Mets, but with him looking for an over $200 million deal, it is safe to say the team is better off just moving on from him at the deadline. Especially with how subpar he has performed, he would not be worth a contract to that extent.

2. Brooks Raley

Brooks Raley has had a very solid year thus far for the Mets. The reliever has posted a very nice 2.40 ERA over 30 innings while striking out 32 batters. He has been a consistent, solid pitcher throughout his tenure with the Mets. He has been solid year after year, but with the 38-year-old in the last year of his contract, the team should look to get some decent value from him at the deadline.

Even though Raley is on the older side, he is a valuable lefty that any contender would be craving, even though he doesn’t throw hard. The Mets could end up getting something decent for him if they decide to part ways at the deadline.

3. AJ Minter

The last name that may be moved soon is AJ Minter. Minter, ever since coming back from his lat injury, has been lights out for the Mets. In 11 innings pitched this season, Minter has yet to give up an earned run. He continues to be dominant in whatever spots they use him. Minter is an underrated piece that the Mets can get some value out of if and when they trade him.

If anything, Minter might be one of their best trade chips, as one of the more valuable pieces on this team. If he continues to pitch as well as he has been, his trade value will certainly increase, and the Mets will have no choice but to move him, given how abysmal the season has been.

This Deadline May Be a Busy One for the Mets

This may be one of the bigger deadlines the Mets have had in quite some time. Not in the aspect of them buying of course, but in the aspect of how many players they part ways with. This roster will look completely different once the fire sale is complete. It will be interesting to see who remains on the team past the deadline.
