Where would the Cardinals prefer to bat Masyn Winn in the lineup?

Masyn Winn Suffers Knee Tweak in Series Finale

St. Louis Cardinals’ shortstop Masyn Winn suffered a knee tweak in Sunday’s series finale. Winn left the game in the seventh inning after grounding into a fielder’s choice.

As the above shows, Winn will undergo further testing. The Cardinals are off on Monday before welcoming the Pittsburgh Pirates to town. Winn’s availability for Tuesday’s will not be known until the results of his exams come back.

Winn Knee Injury History

Winn is not a stranger to knee injuries. In August of last season, Winn played through a torn meniscus in his right knee before undergoing arthroscopic surgery in September. The surgery ended his season early. While the worst of the injury arose in August, Winn admitted he had been dealing with issues prior to last season’s All-Star Game.

At this time, it is unclear if this current injury is as severe as the last one. That will be known until testing results return.

Possible Replacements in Lineup

Should Winn miss any period of time, the Cardinals do have options at shortstop. Cesar Prieto replaced Winn in Sunday’s game. Furthermore, Jose Fermin and Thomas Saggese could be options as well.

Due to Saggese’s struggles at the plate this season, the Cardinals could see this as a possibly opportunity to get him more at bats. On the other hand, it would be an opportunity to see if Prieto, who has made for himself in the minor leagues, can carry over his power from the minor leagues.

Injury Lone Damper on Fun Weekend

“Winn Tweaks Knee” may just be the only negative Cardinals’ related headline this weekend. From the field to the stands, it was an exciting weekend in St. Louis. The “I-70 Series” renewed and did so in fun fashion on Friday, as the Cardinals won in extra winnings on a walk-off hit by Yohel Pozo. A Jordan Walker home run powered the team to victory on Saturday. A meanwhile, a group of fans kept getting the camera’s attention by taking off their shirts and waving them throughout the weekend.

Winn’s injury is the lone damper on the weekend. Hopefully, the results come back positive and he can return to the lineup soon.
