Atlanta Braves Carousel of Arms Continues

The Atlanta Braves continue to stack up wins (10-6) and are 6-4 in their last 10 games. Despite all their injuries, the Braves have the second-best starting rotation in Major League Baseball (2.70 ERA) behind the New York Yankees (2.67).

Even though the Braves starters are doing well, the loss of right-hander Spencer Strider has the carousel of arms being brought up and down from Triple-A continuing on Monday.

According to the Braves, left-hander Dylan Dodd was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following their 13-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians. Dodd pitched three strong innings in relief of left-hander Chris Sale, who went six innings and struck out six.

Dodd was called up before Sunday’s game to replace left-hander Martin Perez. Perez was designated for assignment after pitching five innings in the 6-0 loss to the Guardians on Saturday.

To take Dodd’s place on the active roster, the Braves are recalling right-hander Rolddy Munoz. In five games at Triple-A, Munoz has not allowed an earned run, with seven strikeouts and three holds in 7.2 innings.

The 25-year-old pitched in three games for the Braves last season and had a 12.27 ERA. Munoz will likely get optioned too once he is unavailable.

The Braves Should Have Spencer Strider Returning Soon

The carousel of shuttling arms back and forth to Triple-A may soon be over, as Strider could be back soon. According to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, Strider will pitch in a rehab game on April 16 and throw between 40 and 45 pitches.

Manager Walt Weiss said Strider is on the “right path.” But still thinks he’s about a month away from returning to the Braves.

“He’s on the right path,” Braves manager Walt Weiss said to Bowman. “But with starters, it takes time. We’ve got to build him back up now. So, that’s probably going to take the rest of the month.”

Strider suffered a left oblique strain at the end of spring training and started the season on the injured list.
