The Los Angeles Dodgers have been busy on the final day of the first homestand. They have claimed right-handed pitcher Grant Holman off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. In order to make room for him on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles is transferring starting pitcher Gavin Stone to the 60-day injured list. Holman was designated for assignment on Opening Day.

Adding to Their Depth
Holman is a product of the Athletics organization, taken in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He debuted with Oakland in 2024 and spent two seasons with the team before Arizona claimed him in February. Most of his appearances have been as a reliever with several starts thrown in occasionally. The right-hander had a 5.09 ERA in 22 total appearances last year. Barring an unknown injury, Holmes will start his tenure in Oklahoma City and work to improve his control. Of his three-pitch repertoire, his slider is his best pitch as it garners the most swing and miss.

Prolonged Time on the Shelf
Right-hander Gavin Stone‘s transfer to the 60-day IL shouldn’t be a surprise after his comeback from last year’s shoulder surgery was delayed. Stone impressed in spring training but stopped throwing after experiencing pain. Manager Dave Roberts said that the starter began throwing again, but it will take the full 60 days for him to be built back up. Roberts called Stone’s progress “pre-spring training.” He will likely return in late May or early June. Stone was having a breakout year in 2024 before being felled by injury.
Busy Day
This is the second roster move Los Angeles has made today. They also traded for left-handed reliever Jake Eder from the Washington Nationals in exchange for cash considerations. Eder will also begin his Dodger tenure at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Originally from the Miami Marlins organization, Eder spent some time with the Chicago White Sox, where he made two appearances at the major league level.
It remains to be seen what contributions these two arms will make in Dodger Blue. What is not in dispute, however, is that Los Angeles keeps adding depth.
