The active offseason for the Colorado Rockies continues. Late Tuesday night, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported that left-hander Jose Quintana, 37, is in agreement with the Rockies to return for his 15th season in Major League Baseball, pending a physical. Quintana spent 2025 with the Milwaukee Brewers, posting a 3.96 ERA over 131 2/3 innings pitched. The Rockies will be the ninth team the journeyman pitcher has played for.

Rockies Continue To Fill Out Starting Rotation
The Rockies’ rotation was in dire need of repair when Paul DePodesta took over as the President of Baseball Operations this offseason. In an interview with Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post in November, DePodesta said they would have to be open-minded about all the different ways they can acquire players, especially pitchers. DePodesta has more than backed that up. Quintana joins righties Michael Lorenzen and Tomoyuki Sugano as starting pitchers brought in through free agency this offseason.
All of a sudden, the Rockies’ starting rotation has a serious veteran presence. Lorenzen, Sugano, and Quintana are 34, 36, and 37, respectively. Rockies’ mainstay, LHP Kyle Freeland, 32, is no longer the elder statesman in the rotation. Alongside Freeland, the new additions join intriguing right-hander Tanner Gordon, 28, who was the best starting pitcher in the Rockies’ porous rotation last season. RHP Ryan Feltner, 25, is also returning from an injury that derailed his 2025 season. But Feltner had a stellar 2024 and closed out that season as the most effective pitcher in the Rockies’ rotation. RHP Chase Dollander, the Rockies’ first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee, will be looking to rebound following a disappointing rookie season.
All of a sudden, the Rockies’ patchwork rotation is chock full of options. Now having two left-handed options in Freeland and Quintana. A welcome place to be after the position group entered the offseason as one of the thinnest on the Rockies’ roster. This is a new era for the Rockies’ front office, and the activity has been very refreshing. The newfound depth and veteran experience will pay dividends for the Rockies’ rotation this season. It will be an intriguing position group to watch this spring. Seeing which pitchers emerge to fill out the Rockies’ rotation on Opening Day.
