What Do The Mets Have In Store For Brett Baty?

Brett Baty has had a rollercoaster career with the Mets so far. Considering his ups and downs between the majors and the minors over the past few years, getting playing time and then losing it, he has been through a lot. Now, it seems as though his time with the team will get even more interesting.

What Do The Mets Plan To Do With Brett Baty?

Baty was able to show that he can be a key piece in this lineup. In 130 games last year for the Mets, Baty hit .254, with 18 homers and 50 RBIs. While not jaw-dropping stats, he has shown that he has some pop that can certainly help a lot, considering the power the Mets lost this offseason. Baty’s defense has also improved, as he received most of the playing time at third last season over teammate Mark Vientos.

The Mets Plan To Use Brett Baty As A Utility Player

The plans for Baty have been released this offseason. With reports coming out that the Mets plan to use him as a utility man. Pretty much taking Jeff McNeil’s spot, who they traded to the Athletics this offseason. The plan is for Baty to play third base, left field, first base if needed, and maybe even second base, considering he played a handful of games there last season.

The Mets Could Also Trade Him For Pitching

While the Mets could use Baty as a utility man for the team, they may also be willing to shop him. Reports have come out that the Mets may try to shop Baty for pitching. However, if it were to happen, they would hold a high bar in said trade involving him. Whether the Mets actually trade him remains to be seen. It seems as if this may be a make it or break it year for Baty.

This Will Be An Interesting Year For Baty

It will be intriguing to see what happens to Baty. Whether the Mets turn this experiment of him being a utility player into a successful one or if it fails miserably. Baty has shown flashes of potential this past season, and it will be exciting to see what he can do this year for the Mets. It will be interesting to see if Baty will be a bright spot for this team this year or not, assuming he will get a good amount of playing time.
