The Texas Rangers announced on Friday that the team has signed general manager Chris Young to a multi-year contract extension. Young, who joined the Rangers front office in 2020, was also promoted to president of baseball operations. He has led the Rangers’ entire baseball operations group since August 2022. The 45-year-old executive had been in the final season of his previous deal, which ran from 2021-24. The team did not specify the length or the financial terms of Young’s contract extension.

Rangers Extend General Manager Chris Young to Multi-Year Deal
“Chris Young’s impact on the Texas Rangers organization has been immense over the last four years,” managing partner and majority owner Ray Davis said. “His leadership and vision were instrumental in helping bring a World Series championship to Arlington for the first time, and he is passionate about producing a consistent winner on the field year in and year out for our fans.”
Young played a key role in the Rangers winning the first World Series in the franchise’s 63-year history last season. He is responsible for signing Corey Seager and Marcus Semien to long-term deals and securing Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi. Young also oversaw the acquisitions of Max Scherzer, Jordan Montgomery, Chris Stratton, and Aroldis Chapman at last year’s trade deadline.
Young played for five teams over his 13-year career pitching in the majors, including the Rangers (2004-05). Last season, he became the first former player since 2005 to win the World Series as head of baseball operations. Young is also the first to win a World Series as a player and general manager in over 50 years.
“The Texas Rangers organization holds a very special place for me, and I am excited to continue building on what we’ve started here,” said Young. “While the opportunity to be a part of a World Series Championship in my hometown was a tremendous thrill, our goal is to field a club that can contend for playoff berths every season. I’m grateful to Ray Davis for the trust he’s placed in me, and I’m confident we’ll be successful on this mission. Our fans deserve nothing less.”
Despite a disappointing 2024 campaign, this multi-year extension reflects the Rangers’ confidence in Young to lead the franchise moving forward.
