Padres Star Reaches New Milestone, Breaks Franchise Record

For 50 years, Nate Colbert held the San Diego Padres home run record with 163. Third baseman Manny Machado has now surpassed Colbert after hitting a home run against (Team Name). Machado’s remarkable accomplishment solidifies his position as a vital contributor for the Padres and an iconic power hitter in the franchise’s storied history.

Manny Machado Becomes Padres All-Time Home Run Leader

Machado hit two home runs in the Padres’ 5-1 win against the San Francisco Giants on September 6. Machado moved into a tie with Colbert atop the franchise leaderboard. Colbert was part of San Diego’s inaugural 1969 team, was known for his power-bat and was seen as the franchise’s first star player. However, Colbert, who passed away in 2023 at 76, has been atop that leaderboard after every season.

Machado spent six years in San Diego, matching Colbert’s tenure with the club from 1969-74. Colbert hit 30 runs in a season and tied Stan Musial‘s record of five home runs in a doubleheader on August 1, 1972.

Manny Looks Like Manny Again

Machado said in April that he didn’t expect to be fully healthy until 2025. Machado hit .267/.319/.422 with 13 home runs, 52 RBI and a 79:27 K:BB in 91 games in the first half. Although, the second half is a different story with Machado hitting .291/.345/.533 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI and an improved 26:15 K:BB in 45 games. In addition, August was arguably the best month of the season for the six-time All-Star. Machado hit .302/.356/.941 with seven home runs, 25 RBI and 15:10 K:BB in 27 games.

Where Machado Ranks in Other Franchise Records

Machado has solidified his position in the top ten in several key categories. He currently holds the fourth spot in slugging percentage at .490, the fifth spot in OPS at .832, the sixth spot in runs with 461, the eighth spot in batting average at .275, and the ninth spot in at-bats with 3,023, OBP at .342, and hits with 832.
