The Los Angeles Dodgers received a boost on Tuesday as one of their key right-handed pitchers began a rehab assignment, marking a significant milestone in his recovery from injury. Tony Gonsolin will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. It will be Gonsolin’s first game action since he underwent Tommy John surgery a year ago. A return for Gonsolin before the end of the season has not been ruled out, but if it happens it he would be used in a relief role.

Tony Gonsolin to Begin Rehab Assignment
Gonsolin, 30, was 8-5 with a 4.98 ERA over 20 starts with the Dodgers in 2023 before surgery. His last outing was the worst of his career. He gave up ten runs on eight hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings on August 18 against the Miami Marlins. That came after a fantastic 2022 season when he was 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 24 starts and was named an All-Star for the first time. Gonsolin had a career 3.19 ERA, having started 71 of his 79 outings. Coming back as a reliever could be another boost to a depleted pitching staff.
Dodgers Rotation in a Continual Flux
Out since the middle of June, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will return Tuesday. The Dodgers decided to bring Yamamoto back after he made only two Triple-A rehab starts. He likely won’t be stretched out to more than four innings, but he’ll have four starts to prepare for October. Yamamoto’s return comes with the Dodgers rotation in dire straits. Jack Flaherty is the only lock for the postseason at the moment. Rookie right-hander Gavin Stone could earn a spot if he progresses health-wise.
Tyler Glasnow has been out since August 11 due to elbow tendinitis. However, the right-hander is expected to throw bullpen sessions again this weekend. Left-hander Clayton Kershaw returned to the injured list with a bone spur in his left toe. Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller have been inconsistent throughout the season, though Buehler has shown signs of improvement of late.
