Ahead of Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins, the Philadelphia Phillies have placed infielder Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list with a left-hand strain. Bohm, 28, got hurt on a swing in the first inning of the Phillies game on August 29. The Phillies recalled infielder Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill Bohm’s spot on the roster. Bohm, 28, has not played since the injury and the Phillies believed he would miss a handful of days, but not enough to justify a stint on the IL. Bohm will be eligible to return on September 13. However, it’s unclear if he will be ready by that time.

Manager Rob Thomson said in Toronto that the Phillies hoped to have Bohm back in Miami. However, he hasn’t progressed as fast as they thought.
Bohm earned his first All-Star selection in his career after the fan vote elected him as the starting third baseman. He currently ties for the major league lead with 44 doubles, just one short of Scott Rolen’s franchise record of 45 for a third baseman. Bohm is hitting .290/.328/.419 and has reached base safely in 36 straight games, the first Phillie infielder to do so since Jimmy Rollins in 2005. The Phillies will undoubtedly feel his absence, but they are hopeful that Kennedy can help out.
Kennedy, 25, rejoins Philadelphia following a brief stint in late August. Since being acquired by the Phillies on June 7, Kennedy is hitting .295/.397/.513 with 10 home runs and RBI in 63 games. Kennedy’s return will likely be a combination of Edmundo Sosa and Kody Clemens to play at third base for Philadelphia.
The Phillies are 6-1 without their RBI leader.
