Dodgers Left-Hander to Make Season Debut on Thursday

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be getting reinforcements for their starting rotation this week. Tyler Glasnow will  return from his short stint on the injured list on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants. The other pitcher? Dave Roberts said that Clayton Kershaw will return from offseason shoulder surgery and start the future Hall of Fame left-hander’s 17th season with the club.

The three-time National League Cy Young Award winner had surgery on his left shoulder in November. He signed a one-year contract, with an option for 2025.

Clayton Kershaw to Come Off IL for Thursday’s Start

Glasnow has an 8-5 record and a 3.47 ERA in 18 appearances. However, Glasnow’s stint on the injured list comes at a time when he’s thrown 109 innings this season. It’s 11 shy of his career-high- along with a cluster of injuries to the Dodgers pitching staff that has pushed starting pitching as a priority at the July 30 trade deadline. The Dodgers have 11 pitches on the injured list with 11, but that number will decrease to nine later this week.

Kershaw’s return comes at a time when he made his third rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The left-hander allowed three runs and six hits with strikeouts in four innings. Kershaw is coming off the first major arm surgery of his career, undergoing surgery to repair his left shoulder.

“I want to be a part of it, want to be one of the best five guys we have,” Kershaw told reporters, via KVUE’S Cory Mose. “Obviously, right now, we’re in a bit of dire straits. We need to hold on a little bit … if they need me now, I’ll be ready.”

The Dodgers will have him join a rotation that consists of four rookies and could pop in a fifth on Monday, when River Ryan could make his major league debut. Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler are currently on the IL, along with Brusdar Graterol, Dustin May, Ryan Brasier, Michael Grove and Connor Brogdon. Tony Gonsolin is recovering from elbow surgery performed last August, and Emmet Sheehan underwent Tommy John surgery in May.
