Angels Veteran All-Star Expects to Return by Late July

A part of Mike Trout’s injury update sees him work his way back from surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee that he underwent at the end of April. The initial report suggested a recovery timeline of six weeks was possible for the 32-year-old based on similar surgeries other players had undergone previously. But now there is good news- Trout has been swinging a bat as part of his rehab activities and said he expects to return by the end of July, per the Associated Press. It hasn’t been decided if Trout will need a rehab assignment or if he will take a similar path to Anthony Rendon.

“I’m pretty sure it’s going to be pretty soon,” Trout told Bally Sports West.

Despite his return, it’s unlikely that it will be able to spur Anaheim into the postseason as the club’s 41-55 record leaves them 10 games back of the Seattle Mariners for first in the American League West.

Mike Trout Injury Update

Trout, a three-time AL MVP and 11-time All-Star, was hitting .220/.325/.541 with 10 home runs, one double, two triples, 14 RBI and six stolen bases in 29 games. The Angels have gone 30-37 in his absence.

It’s frustrating for Trout with the injury absences over the years. From 2012 to 2019, there was only one season where he played less than 134 games. He played 53 of 60 games in the shortened 2020 season but hasn’t hit the 120-game mark in any season since then. Trout only played 36 games in the 2021 season with a right calf strain. The following season, he played in 119 games but battled back problems. Last season, it was 82 games due to a left hamate fracture.

Trout, who remains under contract through 2030 at $37.1 million per year, denied any speculation that he would request a trade in the near future. He told reporters in February that when he signed that contract, “I’m loyal.”
