The Philadelphia Phillies match the franchise record set in 2011 for wins in April. With games against the Los Angeles Angels still to come in April, the Phillies have matched a team record set with 18 wins this month. The team has a chance to break the record on April 29. The record-tying win came against the San Diego Padres on April 28. This means the Phillies have now won 11 of their last 13 games. In addition, the Phillies have not lost a series since losing one against the Cincinnati Reds at the start of April. That series win streak includes sweeps of the Colorado Rockies, the Chicago White Sox, and a sweep of the Padres. That stretch of consecutive series sweeps saw the Phillies have a seven-game win streak.
The Phillies have not lost a game this season in which they scored at least five runs. They also have one loss this season in a game where they scored at least four runs. That came against the Atlanta Braves on March 30. During April, the Phillies scored five or more runs in 14 of their 26 games. That includes six of the seven games during the aforementioned win streak. The Phillies currently are 19-10 and are in second place in the NL East. The Phillies are a game and a half behind the Braves for the division lead. Currently, the Phillies have a +25 run differential. As things currently stand, the Phillies are in the top Wild Card spot in the NL.
Phillies Match Franchise Record
During their successful April, the Phillies pitched five shutouts while being shut out once. The great pitching performances in April included a 32-inning scoreless streak for Ranger Suárez. It is the longest scoreless streak for a Phillies pitcher since 2011, when Cliff Lee went 34 innings without allowing a run. Suárez and Lee are in an exclusive group together. They are the two Phillies pitchers since 1900 to have a month with at least five starts and go 5-0 with an ERA of 0.75 or better. For Suárez, it would be this month, and for Lee, it would be June and August of 2011. Furthermore, Suárez is the first Phillies pitcher since 1919, when Lee Meadows did it, to have a 5-0 record and a 1.50 ERA or better through six outings.
Alec Bohm now has a 12-game hitting streak. The streak is the longest active streak. In 26 games in April Bohm has a .370/.453/.652 line with four home runs and 24 RBI. During that span, Bohm ranked second among qualified players behind Marcell Ozuna in batting average and RBI. Bohm is tied with Shohei Ohtani for the most doubles this month with 12. Furthermore, Bohm ranks third among the majors among qualified players, with a 1.105 OPS during April. Trea Turner leads the majors in hits this month with 39. Turner is also tied for second in runs scored this month among qualified players with Ronald Acuña Jr. and Elly De La Cruz with 22.
Other Standout Performances In April
Another Phillies player having an outstanding April is Brandon Marsh. In 24 games this month Marsh has a .300/.345/.538 line with five home runs and 14 RBI. Marsh also is tied with Bryson Stott for the second most stolen bases on the Phillies this month with three. Turner and Johan Rojas lead the team with six stolen bases in April. Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper each have six home runs this month which leads the Phillies. Schwarber also leads the team in walks this month with 20. Bohm leads the Phillies in extra-base hits this month with 17 and total bases with 60. It is early in the season, but Bohm could very well be an NL MVP contender while Suárez contends for the NL Cy Young Award.
