Top Performers from the Rockies First Series of 2024

The first series of the 2024 MLB regular season is in the books for the Colorado Rockies. After four games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Rockies have compiled a record of 1-3. Colorado lost the first two games of the series, before winning game three, and then losing the fourth and final game of the series. To start off, Colorado suffered possibly their most embarrassing Opening Day loss in franchise history as they fell 16-1 to the D-Backs at Chase Field. Many players did not put up their best effort in the first four games of the season. Hopefully, these Rockies can turn things around in their next series against the Chicago Cubs. Let’s look at the Rockies’ top performers in the first series of the new season.

2024 Rockies Top Performers Through the First Four Games

Ryan McMahon

By far the Rockies’ best player through the first four games of the season was third baseman Ryan McMahon. The eighth-year Rockies infielder has a .429 batting average and a run batted in thus far. He’s 6-for-14 at the plate while being walked twice. On Opening Day, McMahon brought home the Rockies’ only run of the night going 2-for-2 with two walks. In the next two games, he went 4-for-8. Finally, in the Rockies’ 5-1 loss yesterday afternoon, he did not record a hit. McMahon has a huge opportunity this season to be one of the most influential players within the Rockies lineup. We’ll see if he can continue to be an offensive force and be one of Colorado’s top performers for the 2024 season.

Charlie Blackmon

Colorado’s 37-year-old outfielder has also made his presence felt within this young Rockies lineup. Through the first four games of the season, Charlie Blackmon has gone 3-for-11 with a walk, and three runs batted in. His three RBI currently lead the team. During the Rockies’ second game of the new season, a 7-3 loss, Blackmon went 1-for-4 with a triple, which ended up bringing home a run. The next day, he went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and a stolen base. The two runs he brought home were huge in helping the Rockies get a 9-4 win. His stolen base during the win is the only stolen base the Rockies have recorded thus far. If he continues to hit, and score when needed, the 37-year-old will have an unexpectedly great 2024 season.

Brenton Doyle

In the Rockies’ first four games, Brenton Doyle has gone 4-for-13 with a walk, a home run, and two runs batted in. During the team’s first and only win of the season, Doyle went 2-for-3 with a walk, while also recording a home run and two runs batted in. The 25-year-old center fielder has struck out five times through his first 13 at-bats, but that shouldn’t be too much cause for concern, as someone like Kris Bryant has struck out seven times through his first 10 at-bats. He’s still young and will develop plenty as the season goes on.

2024 Rockies Top Performers By Pitchers Through the First Four Games

Jalen Beeks

Jalen Beeks made two appearances on the mound for the Rockies in their first four games. In total, he’s pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing no runs or hits, and just two walks while striking out two. When he made his first appearance on the mound in 2024, the Rockies faced a 16-1 hole. But with Beeks on the mound, Arizona could not get anything more across and struggled against the 30-year-old reliever. Colorado is hoping Beeks can continue to pitch like he has for the rest of the season.

Nick Mears

The 27-year-old right-handed reliever made two appearances on the mound thus far. During Nick Mears‘ first appearance, he struck out the side in his team’s 16-1 loss. In his second showing on the mound, he gave up a walk while striking out one batter. His four total strikeouts are currently tied with Ryan Feltner for the team lead. He has the opportunity to showcase his best stuff with the 2024 Rockies, and perhaps be one of the pitching staff’s top performers.
