It’s no surprise that the Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to win the 2024 World Series. After winning the offseason with their free agency signings, they are the favorites to win it at +400. Shohei Ohtani, the reigning MVP and two-way star, joins the club but he will not pitch this season. Instead, he is expected to be the designated hitter come Opening Day. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is considered an immediate Cy Young contender. The Dodgers also traded for pitcher Tyler Glasnow and secured deals with Clayton Kershaw and James Paxton.
But where do the reigning World Series champions sit? How about the up-and-coming Baltimore Orioles? With spring training well underway, let’s take a look.
2024 MLB World Series Odds
The Atlanta Braves have the next-best odds (+650). Atlanta led the majors in nearly every offensive category, including runs, home runs, extra-base hits, RBI, OBP, OPS, and AVG). They are mostly the same team as last season, with the additions of Jarred Kelenic and veteran starting pitcher Chris Sale. The Braves won the World Series in 2021 and are coming off six consecutive National League East division titles. They have not missed the postseason since 2017.
Despite winning those division titles, the Braves have been eliminated by the Phillies in the NLDS each of the last two seasons. They won a league-best 104 games in 2023, but the bats went at the plate for a second consecutive year. Their starting pitching ranked No. 17 in the majors with a 4.36 ERA and were outside the top-ten relievers ERA with 3.81.
Other Notable Odds
The Houston Astros come in at +900. The reigning American League West division champions made it to the World Series in four of the last seven seasons, winning twice. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees round out the top four at +1000. They made some interesting offseason moves, including trading for All-Star outfielder Juan Soto and signing Marcus Stroman from the Chicago Cubs to shape out the starting rotation.
The reigning World Series champions, Texas Rangers, are tied with the Phillies at +1100. Unfortunately, the odds weren’t so kind to the World Series finalists Arizona Diamondbacks, as they share a +2500 projection with the New York Mets. The Baltimore Orioles (+1300), Toronto Blue Jays (+1400), Seattle Mariners (+2000), and Tampa Bay Rays (+2200) round out the top ten. New ownership for the Orioles will look to make a difference, and they are already doing so when they landed ace Corbin Burnes.
