The Baltimore Orioles are making their way south for the start of Spring Training. Trucks carrying the team’s equipment have started the 1,000-mile trip from Camden Yards to Sarasota. Here is everything Birdland needs to know about the Orioles Spring Training in 2024.

Where Do The Orioles Have Spring Training?

The 2024 season marks the Orioles’ 15th spring training season at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, FL. Often called “Birdland South”, Ed Smith Stadium is located less than two miles from Downtown Sarasota and seats over 7,500 fans.

 

When Do The Orioles Report To Spring Training?

Pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training on Wednesday, February 14th. Position players report to Spring Training on Monday, February 19th.

The first full-squad workout will be on Tuesday, February 20th.

 

Can Fans Attend Spring Training Workouts?

Yes! Fans are invited to watch workouts on the backfields. Practices are open to the public up until the Orioles Spring Training home opener.

 

When Is The First Orioles Spring Training Game?

The first Orioles Spring Training game is against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, February 24th. This is also the Orioles home opener at Ed Smith Stadium.

 

Who Can Fans Expect To See In Sarasota?

Birdland can expect to see all of their favorite players from the Orioles 40-man roster in Sarasota for Spring Training. In particular, two new Orioles to pay attention to this spring are right-handed pitchers Corbin Burnes and Craig Kimbrel.

The Orioles have not yet released their non-roster invitees to Spring Training this year. However, all signs point to top prospect Jackson Holliday returning to Sarasota.

 

How To Watch Orioles Spring Training Games

The official Spring Training broadcast schedule has not been released yet. However, fans can tune into MASN and the Orioles Radio Network for Orioles Spring Training broadcast coverage.

 

Orioles Spring Training Promotions

The Orioles will have two Kids Run the Bases dates and four Seniors Run the Bases dates this spring. There will also be five promotional giveaways ranging from a magnet schedule to a Spring Training t-shirt. Fans can also catch post-game fireworks following the Orioles’ final home game at Ed Smith Stadium on Saturday, March 23rd. Split Squad Games

A split-squad game is when a team has two games in one day, but it is not considered a doubleheader. Typically, split-squad games are played with half of the team at home and the other half on the road. Split-squad games are used to give players who are competing for a roster spot more playing time and to give managers a few more looks.

The Orioles will play in four split-squad games this spring.

There is so much to look forward to in Birdland as the Orioles get ready to defend their AL East championship. With the addition of Corbin Burnes and so many young prospects who could make their big league debuts, the 2024 baseball season could just be the best one yet.
