Camden Yards will continue to be the bird’s nest for the Baltimore Orioles. The Maryland Stadium Authority approved a lease extension for the Orioles in one of the final steps to a long-term agreement between the team and the state. The deal was unanimously approved this afternoon by the state’s Board of Public Works. Those were the final steps to take after the Orioles and Governor Wes Moore signed a memorandum of understanding in late September.

Orioles Finalize 30-Year Deal at Camden Yards
The lease agreement was going to expire on December 31. The deal extends the lease for 30 years, with an option to end it after 15 years. That is only if Baltimore does not receive approval from state officials for development plans next to the ballpark. The Orioles would have until the end of 2027 to reach an agreement on that land development. If the club and state can agree to a development plan in the next four years, then the lease will increase from 15 to 30 years. It also features a no-relocation clause that financially saves the Orioles from leaving Baltimore.
A Desire to Upgrade Camden Yards
Orioles chairman/CEO John Angelos stated a desire to upgrade around Camden Yards by constructing housing, entertainment experiences and more. The idea would be similar to The Battery outside of Truist Park in Atlanta. The finalization of the new releases $600 million to fund upgrades to the ballpark. It is because of the legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2002. Angelos plans to use the team’s incoming assets to upgrade components of Camden Yards. From amenities to seating to improving the audio/video systems and scoreboards as the current ones were installed in 2008.
Since its opening, Camden Yards is known as one of the best stadiums in baseball. The one-time railroad center is two blocks from the birthplace of baseball icon Babe Ruth.
