For the third time in just shy of a month, Carlos Correa has reached an agreement, pending a physical, with a third different team. This time, Carlos Correa signs with the Minnesota Twins on a 6-year, $200 million deal per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The deal does include a vesting option that will guarantee a seventh year and $25 million more should he accrue 502 plate appearances in year six. As mentioned above, this is the third time this off-season that Carlos Correa has tentatively had an agreement with a Major League club. On December 13th, he came to an agreement with the San Francisco Giants on a 13-year, $350 million deal. That fell through after Correa did not pass his physical, however, and he subsequently reached an agreement with his second team of the off-season, the New York Mets. That deal was for 12 years and $315 million, but it also fell through after he once again did not pass the physical. This agreement today could be the one to stick, however, as the Twins have been well aware of Correa’s injury history since signing him last off-season.
Carlos Correa At A Glance
When you strip away the injury history and just look at Correa’s on-field production, you will see one of the best players in the League today. Coming into 2023 with a career line of .279/.357/.479 with 155 home runs and a 129 OPS+, it’s clear to see the attraction that Correa has on Major League teams. Add 39.5 career bWAR to that over eight seasons, and the longing for Correa to have a full healthy season becomes more than real.
Unfortunately, since debuting on June 8th, 2015, Correa has only had two seasons in which he played 140+ games (and the shortened 2020 season in which he played 58 of 60). Before playing 136 games for the Twins in the 2022 season, his next-highest total was 110, in 2018. If the Minnesota Twins can get a full 150+ games out of Carlos Correa, and the also oft-injured Byron Buxton, they will have more than an outside chance of winning the very weak AL Central. All of this, of course, is pending that dreaded physical.
