Texas Rangers Trade Jose Trevino to Yankees

Texas Rangers

With less than a week to go until Opening Day, many teams are still making changes to their rosters. With this in mind, the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees agreed upon a trade on Saturday evening. The Rangers are sending catcher and former mainstay Jose Trevino to New York. In exchange, they will receive right-hander Albert Abreu, and lefty Robby Ahlstrom. The Texas Rangers have not been shy about going after pitching over the past several months. Over the winter, they picked up several pitchers such as right-handers Jon Gray and Garrett Richards. This move also indicates that the Texas Rangers have a lot of confidence in the newly acquired Mitch Garver. They got him in a trade with the Minnesota Twins in mid-March.

Beneficial for Both Sides

The Yankees meanwhile, are set to begin a new era in the Bronx. They traded their longtime catcher Gary Sanchez and infielder Gio Urshela to the Twins for American League MVP Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. So it seems that the Twins as well as the Rangers ended up with fairly good backstops in this flurry of trades. Texas Rangers fans are certainly going to miss Trevino. He is known more for his glove for his bat, and that seems to be the reason why the Texas Rangers employed him since the 2018 season. Perhaps his bat will wake up in New York. It has been said a lot over the years, but sometimes a change of scenery really does help a player succeed. It will be very interesting to see how well he performs with the Yankees.

Fast Approaching

The Texas Rangers open the season on the road on April 8th. They will be sending Jon Gray to the mound as their Opening Day starter. Fans are very excited to see all of the new faces in action for the first time, especially Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. The 2022 season shall be a promising one for the Texas Rangers. Opening Day can come soon enough.
